Spiritual allegiance and succession

Mawlana Ubayd Raza is a murid in the Qadirī Razawī ꜤAṭṭārī spiritual order, having pledged allegiance to his father, Shaykh Ilyas Attar al-Qadiri.

On the 11th of RabīꜤ al-Ākhir 1437 AH, corresponding to 22nd January 2016, during a Madani Muzakara, his father officially granted him spiritual deputization (khilāfa) and appointed him as his spiritual successor.

Humility and modesty

Our righteous predecessors were known for their humility and selflessness. Even in today’s challenging times, Mawlana Ubayd Raza embodies these very traits.

A classmate once recalled that a group of Islamic brothers, including Mawlana Ubayd Raza, had gathered somewhere. As night fell, space became limited, making it difficult for everyone to rest comfortably. When they finally managed to lie down and later woke up, they were amazed to find him sleeping quietly in a small spot that was left near the door, having chosen the least comfortable space for himself.

Fear of Allah

Due to his intense fear of Allah, his eyes often well up with tears. He has been seen crying on Madani Channel due to this. After a kidney stone operation, he was once found weeping bitterly late at night, saying: “If the pain of this worldly affliction is so intense, then what about the agonies of death, the torment of the grave, and the horrors of the Day of Judgement?”

Love for the Prophet ﷺ

Mawlana Ubayd Raza Attari al-Madani, the spiritual successor of the Amir of Ahl al-Sunna, is often immersed in the love of the Prophet Muhammad صَلَّى الـلّٰـهُ عَلَيْهِ وَاٰلِهٖ وَسَلَّم. He encourages others to obey the beloved Prophet صَلَّى الـلّٰـهُ عَلَيْهِ وَاٰلِهٖ وَسَلَّم frequently, stating: “The more one follows the Prophet صَلَّى الـلّٰـهُ عَلَيْهِ وَاٰلِهٖ وَسَلَّم, the deeper one’s love for him becomes.”

Worship and devotion

The pious servants of Allah never allow a moment to pass without making dhikr of Him, and the same is true for Mawlana Ubayd Raza. From a young age, he has been a devoted follower of the Sunna and an adherent to Islamic law.

Beyond the obligatory prayers, his routine includes:

  • Tahajjud
  • Dhikr
  • Consistent recitation of ṣalāt (salutations upon the Prophet صَلَّى الـلّٰـهُ عَلَيْهِ وَاٰلِهٖ وَسَلَّم)

He consistently makes dhikr of Allah. This was seen during his kidney stone operation. Even under anesthesia, he could be heard saying, “Allah, Allah”.

He is very cautious when it comes to halal and haram. On one occasion during his travels, he visited a house where the head of the family had recently passed away, and the young children were among the heirs. Though the family had arranged food, he neither ate nor drank from that house. Instead, he explained the Islamic rulings regarding inheritance and encouraged them to distribute it as soon as possible.

Answered supplications

He is known to be among those whose supplications are accepted (mustajāb al-daꜤwāt). One such incident took place in Greece on a Friday when he visited a home. The police had arrested the host’s brother. Upon the host’s request, he made dua, and within a short while, the brother was released, returned home, and offered Jumuʿa prayer with him.

Mawlana Ubayd Raza has travelled worldwide, preaching and delivering Sunna-inspired speeches. Some of the places he has visited include:

  • India
  • Nepal
  • Sri Lanka
  • Germany
  • Spain
  • South Africa
  • Bangkok

  • The Arabian Peninsula, among others.

He has also had the honor of performing ḥajj and ʿumrah multiple times.
